From 2008 This year marks the eleventh year the Johnson City News & Neighbor has been serving the Johnson City area. The three-time General
Excellence award winning community newspaper started publishing April 12, 1998.
“As a community paper grows and becomes more and more a part of the lives of our
readers, the paper actually becomes
“their” newspaper. That’s what a good community newspaper is supposed to do. From the first day we
started publishing the newspaper, we decided not to print bad or controversial
news. We leave that to the daily or electronic media. People get depressed
reading and hearing negative news. We wanted to showcase our wonderful
community and especially the people in it with positive news that leaves a good
feeling. We also want to put our community's best foot forward for new
businesses and people moving here,
”said Bill and Judy Derby, publishers.
The News & Neighbor circulation report and readership survey from the Circulation
Verification Council (CVC) shows a 97.3% market receivership with a regular
increase in readership and growth.
“Each year we have increased revenue and readership, the most vital benchmarks of
success in this industry. It shows people enjoy reading our paper and that our
customers are successful in marketing their products and services in their
advertising,
” Derby said.
“We have a great staff. They work very hard for their customers and love to share
the success stories and great things they hear in the community about our
paper. Our graphic artists have won numerous awards for their creative work. It
’s a team effort and we are proud of their ability and dedication to excellence,” said Judy Derby.
"Our other staff members include Jamie Bailey, Jeff Derby, Beverly Green, Leslie Haas, and Linda Jenkins in sales and marketing and Roy Jenkins is our circulation manager. Judd
Shaw is our Production Manager and graphic designer. Sherri G Pugh is our graphic designer."
Derby added, "We have also just expanded our website at newsandneighboronline.com so out of town readers can read stories about
their friends and family back home."
"Local Faces...Local Places" is the Johnson City News & Neighbor's motto. Our award winning local news coverage focuses on the wonderful events happening in our community and the
people behind them. Both photography and editorial coverage make our newspaper an easy and comfortable
read in today's fast pace.
The News & Neighbor is Johnson City and Washington County's largest circulation local
newspaper and is carrier delivered each Saturday into 31,000 homes giving customers
97.3% market penetration. Our readership and circulation are audited and
verified on a regular basis by Circulation Verification Council.
If you want the coverage and readership to expand your market, we have the
solution.
